8 Disney Channel Co-Star Pairs That Actually Didn’t Get Along in Real Life

by: on | in Celebrities | No Comments

When you spend your entire childhood watching Disney Channel characters be the best of friends on TV, it’s kind of hard to believe that those co-stars actually hated each other’s guts in real life. The awesome on-screen chemistry between some of our favorite pairs, like Hannah Montana and Lilly Truscott on Hannah Montana or Sharpay and Ryan Evans in High School Musical, usually seems so genuine and we can’t help but think that they’re one big happy family off-screen. But, unfortunately, that’s just not the case. It turns out that people can’t always get along all the time, and that seriously sucks.

We don’t know about you, but finding out that on-screen Disney friendships were never actually real was kind of like realizing for the first time that Santa Claus is imaginary. It’s so easy to forget that TV relationships are fictional, and it’s even easier to assume that everything is fine and dandy when the cameras stop rolling. But the reality is, even though co-stars might seem friendly on television, it doesn’t always mean that they’re super close IRL. In fact, they just might be the complete opposite. Check out these eight pairs of Disney Channel co-stars that actually didn’t get along behind the scenes:

Miley Cyrus & Emily Osment

Miley once mentioned in an interview with Seventeen that she and Emily are like sisters, but it wasn't exactly like that when Hannah Montana started back in 2006. It turns out that the two of them grew frustrated and argued with each other a lot behind the scenes.

In her autobiography, Miles to Go, she wrote, "The show felt real to me, and I wanted my relationship with Lilly to feel real, too. I knew it didn't have to — show business is show business — but I was disappointed. There were times when I didn't think we could ever be friends. We just couldn't figure out how to get along." Who would’ve thought?

Selena Gomez & Miley Cyrus

The feud between Selena and Miley started over a curly-haired cutie named Nick Jonas. He dated Miley for over two years, but then they went through a really bad breakup. Pretty soon after, Nick started dating Selena. Tsk tsk tsk... Dating a friend's ex definitely wasn't the best idea in this case. (Or ever, usually.)

So as you'd expect, that led to a pretty big split in their friendship, and Miley is nowhere near ready to let Selena get off that easily. At one point, she made fun of Selena and Demi with a parody video on YouTube, and she even sang "FU" to a cardboard cutout of Selena on stage during one of her performances. It doesn't look like these two plan to kiss and make up any time soon. They're like the real-life versions of Hannah Montana & Mikayla.

Jake T. Austin & Selena Gomez

The two might have played the perfect siblings on Wizards of Waverly Place, but when Selena chose to stop doing the show wanted to look for more mature roles in 2013, Jake wasn't very happy about it.

He tweeted, "When an artist's definition of 'growing with their fans' is creating content they aren't even allowed to see..." *gulp*… That burn was hot enough to melt an entire iceberg. But on the bright side, it looks like Jake has gotten over it because the two of them seem to be on really good terms these days. He even told Just Jared, Jr. that Selena is like his sister!

Demi Lovato & Selena Gomez

These two were actually the best of friends long before their Princess Protection Program days. They were even on Barney & Friends together as kids (the definition of friendship goals)!

However, back in July of 2014, Demi unfollowed Selena on Twitter because of all the drama going on with her and Justin Bieber. And plus, shortly after unfollowing, Demi tweeted a meme of herself "swimming away from the bulls***" along with the phrase "BYE." Talk. About. Harsh!

They've come together since then, but then go through periods of not speaking. Who really knows where they're at at this moment?

The Sprouse Twins & Selena Gomez

OMG, we can still remember Dylan Sprouse and Selena sharing their very first kiss as kids on an episode of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody! Selena even mentioned at one point that they had a bond (oh, the cuteness!). But back in 2013, Dylan tweeted the following: "Oh I get it Selena, too good to follow your ole' pals Dylan and Cole huh? THIS IS JUST LIKE WHEN WE WERE 12 #neverforget." So apparently, Selena was just too proud and popular to follow them back.

Bella Thorne & Zendaya

This one might come as a shocker, especially since Bella and Zendaya are totally besties now. But believe it or not, the two of them were pitted against each other when they started filming the first season of Shake It Up!.

In an exclusive interview with J-14, Bella admitted, "Zendaya and I were put in a very unfortunate position where we were kind of forced to compete against each other, which made the whole first season of the show just very awkward for us." But thankfully, the two decided to have a little heart to heart and they've been close friends ever since!

Ashley Tisdale & Lucas Grabeel

These two made such an awesome pair in High School Musical! You rarely ever saw Sharpay without her stylish sidekick/brother, Ryan. However, Ashley dished in an exclusive interview with People that she and Lucas didn't really like each other during the first movie.

She said, "We would hardly talk to each other, because when I was auditioning for Sharpay, I screen-tested with him and I was acting like Sharpay. I think he was like, 'Who is this girl telling me what to do?'" But on a brighter note, the two eventually began to bond and they're now really close friends. Yay for happy endings!

Raven-Symone & the Rest of The Cheetah Girls

Considering the fact that the girls seemed to share such tight bond, it's safe to say that a lot of us got a little suspicious when Raven didn't show up in the final Cheetah Girls film. But when the story behind that finally came out, it was just heartbreaking. In an interview, Raven said, "There were territorial issues. There were cat fights. It was not all peaches and cream off camera." Yikes!
