Despite being only 22-years-old, Ansel Elgort has been a part of some of the biggest movies of recent years. He made us sob as Augustus Waters in The Fault in Our Stars, pissed us the eff off as Caleb Prior in Divergent and gave us the feels as Tim Mooney in Men, Women & Children. But even though the NYC-born actor has a pretty impressive resume thus far, he understands what it’s like to be told ‘no’ by Hollywood’s finest.
Even though it may seen that Ansel shot to fame out of nowhere, the sandy haired cutie has put in a ton of work, just like many of his fellow young stars. It was recently announced that the youngster is in final talks to star in the upcoming movie version of the role-playing game, Dungeons & Dragons, and although things are looking good on this end, not all film negotiations have gone as positively for him. To see which big on-screen roles Ansel was once considered for, scroll through the gallery below!
Tobias 'Four' Eaton, Divergent
We know Ansel as Tris' cowardly brother Caleb in The Divergent Series, but he initially went out for a different role in the YA franchise.
"I auditioned for Four," he told MTV. "We did a few takes and it wasn't really working... and [my friend] was like, 'You should take a knife and hold it while you're giving the speech.' So I took a big kitchen knife, a big one, and I had the kitchen knife and I was holding it, playing with it, giving this speech as Four… I wasn't ready for Four."
But even though his first plan didn't go so well, the actor said he really likes playing Caleb because "he's a really interesting guy."
Spider-Man, Spider-Man: Homecoming
The casting of the newest Spider-Man was one of the most talked-about movie scenarios of recent time. On the shortlist of young actors who were highly considered for the role? Logan Lerman, Dylan O'Brien, Josh Hutcherson AND Ansel Elgort, just to name a few. Tom Holland ultimately reigned supreme and appeared for the first time in Captain America: Civil War.

Young Han Solo, Star Wars
Alden Ehrenreich beat out over 2500 young actors who auditioned for the iconic role. Some of the biggest names on the list of stars who sent tapes to producers include Ansel, Miles Teller, Colton Haynes, Logan Lerman, Tom Felton and Dave Franco.

Cyclops, X-Men: Apocalypse
Before Tye Sheridan was cast as Scott Summers in the most recent X-Men film, many young stars were considered to take over James Marsden role, including the 22-year-old cutie.

Unknown role, Dungeons & Dragons
Deadline recently reported that the Fault in Our Stars actor "is in early negotiations to star in" Warner Brothers' upcoming movie based on the super-successful role-playing game, Dungeons & Dragons. Goosebumps director Rob Letterman is already slated to take charge of the film, but they haven't officially given Ansel the part just yet.
Two years ago, multiple news sources reported that MGM was working on a remake of the 1983 film WarGames, and Ansel was one of the top young actors they were considering to play Matthew Broderick's lead role. Although they also stated that director Dean Israelite was "in final negotiations" to be at the helm, no further news on the production has been released.
