2016 was full of breakups that shocked the crap out of everyone. Like, did you think this would be the year that Demi Lovato & Wilmer Valderrama would call it quits? Or the year that Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie would get a divorce?? The past 365 days or so have been utter madness, we tell you. M-A-D-N-E-S-S.
The following 2016 splits were a little less shocking than the rest — no Brangelinas here — but they’re still worth mentioning; they’re all between two famous people (so not Emma Roberts & her no-name boo or Hilary Duff & her personal trainer man) who started hooking up in 2016… and ended their relationship in 2016. Whomp whomp.
Bella Thorne & Tyler Posey
In August, the Famous in Love actress broke up with her longtime boyfriend, Gregg Sulkin, much to the surprise of her fans. BUT, she quickly moved on — one month later, she was spotted hooking up with the Teen Wolf actor, who just so happens to be (former?) friends with Gregg.
The pairing packed on the PDA in the weeks following, but couldn't make it to 2017. The way Bella let everyone know they were dunzo: She started hooking up with Charlie Puth in public!

Bella Thorne & Charlie Puth
But, wait, it gets better — shortly after Bella & Charlie made their debut, Charlie announced on Twitter, "I don't know Tyler personally, but I know he shouldn't be treated this way."
"She told me she was not with him anymore," he continued. "This is all news to me."
Bella soon followed up saying that she and Charlie aren't dating and are just friends; friends with benefits, clearly. Oy.
Tom Hiddleston & Taylor Swift
2 weeks after Taylor Swift & Calvin Harris shockingly called it quits after over a year of dating, the 26-year-old singer, seemingly out of nowhere, was spotted making out with the 35-year-old Thor actor.
The two reportedly hit it off early May, when she was still dating Calvin, at the 2016 Met Gala, where they were caught dancing with each other on camera.
It was a whirlwind romance that lasted through the summer until right after Labor Day weekend, almost 3 months after Hiddleswift first got together.
Luke Pasqualino & Perrie Edwards
It was September when buzz got around that the Little Mix beauty was moving on... with a Zayn Malik lookalike. The 23-year-old blondie gave 26-year-old Skins actor Luke shoutouts on social media, and was caught getting cozy with him on multiple occasions, leading Mixers to leave their congrats for her across Twitter, Instagram and the like.
Sadly, that ship sailed by October. Guess she can now can now give a shoutout to another one of her exes.

Soko & Kristen Stewart
Post-Robert Pattinson, KStew really started packing on the PDA with whomever she was with, and that included her girlfriend, French singer-songwriter Soko (a.k.a. Stéphanie Sokolinski). The two openly flaunted their relationship starting in March, with Soko proudly proclaiming how "very, very, very in love and very happy" she was by month's end.
But that "love" ended quickly, with word of their split in May. "CHEATER. F—king CHEATER," Soko tweeted (then deleted) after the news made headlines. Hmm...
Kristen Stewart & St. Vincent
Though KStew spent the summer raving about on-again, off-again girlfriend Alicia Cargile, claiming she's "really in love" with her. But, before she started seeing Miley Cyrus' ex, Victoria's Secret model Stella Maxwell in December, she hooked up with Cara Delevingne's ex, St. Vincent (a.k.a. Annie Clark).
The two were first spotted in August, and attended many an event in each other's company in the weeks following. But, by year's end, she was spotted walking alongside the VS model, and Annie was spotted walking alongside Cara again.
Nick Jonas & Lily Collins
The Nick-Lily dating rumors, which started in February, were short-lived. It was like, "BREAKING: Nick Jonas & Lily Collins Are Dating!" Then... radio silence for months.
But in May 2016, there was a bit of hope: While guest-editing a section of The Sun, the "Chainsaw" singer spoke about his romance with the 27-year-old Mortal Instruments actress for the first time, saying, "We went out a couple of times. She is amazing."
There it was in black and white: confirmation of a romance.
But then, for some reason, he took it back soon after The Sun used the headline: "Can't hurry love with a Jonas Brother: Singer Nick reveals he's been dating Phil Collins' daughter, Lily."
"I feel like subtweeting the hell out of somebody right now... Oh wait," he began. "I won't though. Stay positive. It makes everything more awesome. Even when people are stu- wait stop. Like I said, stay positive. It works.
"I'm very single, y'all," he continued. "That is all... Hate when liberties are taken for headlines."
So... we're guessing it wasn't a match made in heaven.
Justin Bieber & Sofia Richie
In July 2016, the Biebs reportedly began seeing a then-underage Sofia. (She turned 18 the following month.) JB is not known to stick around one woman for very long, apart from Selena Gomez, so many of his followers did not take to the teenage model very well.
Haters started posting awful comments on the Biebs' pictures with the young star, attacking her looks, ethnicity... you name it. So, the 22-year-old told them to back off — if they didn't, he threatened to make his account private. (This is what ignited the feud between him and ex Selena, FYI.)
Despite Justin's defense of Sofia, they were dunzo by September... and he's still not a fan of Instagram, saying the platform is "for the Devil."

Robert Buckley & Lea Michele
Reports of the Glee alum's split with longtime boyfriend Matthew Paetz made their rounds in February, mostly due to the fact that she was spotted without him on Valentine's Day.
The Scream Queens actress wasn't nursing a broken heart for long, though, as she was said to be dating her co-star from her Hulu sci-fi series, Dimension 404, by May.
Alas, the relationship wasn't built to last. In July, Us Weekly said, "[They] just found they were better off as friends and wanted to support each other’s careers." Their "busy schedules" are said to be part of the reason for the breakup as well.

Kylie Jenner & PartyNextDoor
The never-ending saga of Kyga (Kylie Jenner + Tyga) bookended her relationship with Canadian rapper PartyNextDoor (a.k.a. Jahron Anthony Brathwaite).
Nearly 2 months after the on-again-off-again couple called it quits before the 2016 Met Gala, the musician posted a photo of the teen on his Instagram, saying, "They always come back..."
That was one day after the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star was depicted making out with PND in his "Come and See Me" music video. So, basically, Kylie & PartyNextDoor lasted a hot minute.
