Even though 2016 was the absolute worst in most senses — look at the world of politics as one of the key examples as to why that statement is true — we can’t help but think of all the good that came out of it… like all the guys that rose to new levels of sexy. (We’re lookin’ at you, grown-up Shawn Mendes.)
Only choosing 16 hotties for our “Best of” compilation may have been one of the most difficult tasks we had to do this year. And while 2016 wasn’t anyone’s favorite year, it is important to focus on the positives… like this list of ridiculously attractive people. So treat yo’ self to this roll call of the hottest dudes (in no particular order) to grace our playlists, TVs and big screens:
The drama of Zayn leaving One Direction couldn't overshadow his powerful Mind of Mine album release. Featuring songs like, "PILLOWTALK," "rEaR vIeW" and "fLoWer," this sultry R&B debut is another reason why we're hopping on board the breakup train for boy bands.
We love when a band can grow up with their fans. When the Jonas Brothers broke up in 2013, it was a bummer, but obviously for the best — since the boys have parted ways, they've gone on to have full-fledged acting and music careers.
While Nick Jonas had a hilarious turn on Scream Queens, no one can deny that Joe Jonas may be back to reclaim the title as the hottest and most popular brother, what with his DNCE success. The electro-pop band, comprised of his BFFs, has a top 10 Billboard hit, snagged a MTV Music Award for Best New Artist and has performed at some of the hottest award shows, like the Billboard Music Awards, before even putting out a debut album. Call it what you will, but we can't stop dancing in our seats to "Body Moves" and "Cake By the Ocean." Joe Jonas, you're our real-life fantasy.

Another JoBro racking up the accolades this year is Nick, for his Last Year Was Complicated album. The album itself is brilliant, with its breakout hit, "Close,", this boy-bander-no-more is making a name for himself on his terms... and there's nothing sexier than that.
Sure, the Biebs has had his ups and downs, but the new Purpose album is undoubtedly lit. From allegedly calling out Selena Gomez to collabs with Diplo and Skrillex, Justin keeps evolving his music to suit his fans and to chronicle where he is in life, and that, in itself, is pretty darn hot. No wonder he had to add dates to his Purpose World Tour — he's an artist that just keeps on giving.

The native Canadian very well may be the new Biebs. The now-18-year-old hottie comes from modest beginnings — his mom is a real estate agent, and his dad sells restaurant supplies — and shot to Vine fame in a matter of months after recording covers, which gained him millions of followers on the now-defunct app.
Illuminate is the singer's second studio album and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. Only five artists debuted number one hits at such a young age — Justin Bieber included.
Charlie Puth may or may not be dating Bella Thorne, but that doesn't stop us from getting our crush on. The Nine Track Mind album is Charlie's first major release, and is worth the wait — we can't get "One Call Away" out of heads, and same goes for Charlie.

Good looks run in the family for the Daddario clan, and Matthew is clearly not second-best to sister Alexandra Daddario (Percy Jackson). Playing Alec Lightwood on Shadowhunters to perfection only makes us love him more, and the passion with which he plays Alec is clear, whether on set or speaking about him during interviews. Oh, and the tall, dark and handsome thing doesn't hurt either.

After seeing Deadpool, we have a newfound respect for Ryan Reynolds' acting prowess. We knew the dude was hot and funny, but he gave the super anti-hero a humanity that truly brought the comic books to life on the big screen. And you have to give the guy credit where credit's due — it took Ryan 10 years to get Fox to greenlight a superhero movie with the "Merc with a Mouth." If he approaches his relationships with that same kind of dedication, add that to our list of "Reasons to Be Jealous of Blake Lively [Besides Her Hair and Legs]."

Chris Pratt is hot at any size, but we are loving his hot new physique that he started debuting once he became a legit action star. Chris continued to flaunt his stuff in The Magnificent Seven and Passengers, and we couldn't be more thrilled. The dude is jacked, and we'll watch him fight dinosaurs, aliens, cowboys, whatever, any day of the week.

It looks like Canada is invading our Top 16 list, because Canadian rapper Drake is coming in hot for making us fall in love all over again with his Views album.
The 2-year-long recording session that transpired to make this album was well worth it — "Hotline Bling" was a chart topper (and also solidified the fact that Drake is not a dancer... but still looks adorable when he tries!). We love a guy that can make fun of himself and look hot while doing so. Drake, you can make our hotline bling anytime.

Let's be honest — most of us are #TeamJess. Keeping that bad boy charm, while becoming a responsible, hardworking, celebrated writer? Come. on. If you're the type to crush on tortured artists in your English class, then we know you were drooling over Milo in the Gilmore Girls reboot. That good-natured character carried over onto the hit new show This is Us, a surprisingly touching foray in familial and romantic comedy on NBC. We're not sure at what point dads and writers decided bulging muscles were cool, but hey, we're all for it.
Childish Gambino (Donald Glover)
Donald Glover does it all: he raps, he sings, he acts, he writes... the list goes on and on. And there is nothing sexier than a man with ambition. To cap it all off, he's a new dad, and we're sure his kid is going to grow up to be a talented genius, too. We can't wait for Season 2 of the hit show Atlanta, and to see what comes after his new soul album, Awaken, My Love! Well, besides Star Wars.
How lucky can the Hadid girls get? Like Zayn, The Weeknd (a.k.a. Abel Makkonen Tesfaye) dated a model sister (we're obviously talking about Bella Hadid here), has a string of hits and amazing hair. Life doesn't get much better. And with the release of his Starboy album, The Weeknd is racking up the sales, just in time for the holidays.

Eddie Redmayne's popularity is very nearly on the level of Jennifer Lawrence at this point — he's so likable, you kind of wonder when people are going to start getting tired of him. But another thing Eddie and Jen have in common is that they're fabulous in anything they do, particularly acting.
But Eddie was particularly wonderful in this year's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. We love a good Harry Potter movie, and combining a magical, nostalgic adventure with Ed's charm and good looks is more than enough to win us over. Did we mention we love a boy with an accent?

The Grammy-Award-winning master just keeps getting better. His untitled unmastered. album goes into the intricacies of the rapper's psyche, and the intelligence with which he weaves his rhymes is downright poetic, which only lends to his boyish good looks. We'll be this genius' muses any day.
We can't get over the hilarious Leonardo-DiCaprio-finally-winning-an-Oscar memes from this past year, but more than that, we're so happy Leo finally received the recognition he deserved. Nominated six times, one of the only good things to come out of 2016 was Leo finally taking home an Academy Award (for The Revenant). And with the set being described, at times, as "hellish," we're glad Leo's hard work didn't go unnoticed.
