14 Celebrities Who Hate Valentine’s Day Just as Much as You Do

by: on | in Celebrities | No Comments

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, it’s basically impossible to keep the ~holiday of love~ off of your mind. Drugstores are cluttered with heart-shaped boxes and fuzzy stuffed animals with gag-worthy sayings on them. You can’t turn on the TV without seeing commercials for diamond rings and sickeningly sweet date ideas for your one true love. Many of us are spending the holiday with not one but TWO valentines, however… and by that, we totally mean Ben and Jerry.

While a lot of single people can (rightfully) complain about being alone on a day dedicated to couples, it’s not all that easy for those in love either. Not only are you shelling out heaps of cash on something bae may or may not even like and a fancy dinner, but restaurant wait times take forever and usually the service is crappy AF because all the waiters are slammed. So basically, whether you’re single or taken, chances are you’re *secretly* thinking, “OMFG February 14th SUCKS.” But don’t feel too bad — these celebs are, too!

Nina Dobrev

This Vampire Diaries girl totally bashed the holiday in an interview with MTV way back in 2011.

"Valentine's Day is one of those things that if I have a boyfriend I love it and I think it's the greatest thing in the world and if I'm single I just wish the day never existed. But in all actuality, there's just a lot of empty space between Christmas and Mother's Day and Father's Day, or one of those other holidays. So they needed something else and they needed to make money and support the economy, so they invented Valentine's Day."

What a cynic! Though, NGL, she's probably right.

Justin Bieber

Back in 2013, JB seemed to be loving the V-Day spirit with his silly SNL video and Happy Valentine's Day tweet, but it looks like his love for the holiday of love quickly faded.

Fans couldn't help but notice that the following year, the "Sorry" singer tweeted, "All about the music" meaning, we guess, the day wasn't about love for him.

In 2015, he posted a vid to IG that at first looked like the feet of a couple standing close to each other and hugging but THEN was revealed to be just his arms in shoes. It's basically the visual equivalent of saying, "I'm happy this Valentine's Day — psych! Totally single!"

Then in 2016, he ignored the day all together — no tweets or anything! So it's safe to say V-day is not the Biebs' holiday of choice.

Nathalia Ramos

This Nickelodeon star says she tries to avoid the day altogether. Nathalia told CeleBuzz, "I have bad luck on Valentine's Day. I have a history of bad luck, so I'm trying not to think about it. I'm trying not to focus on it and maybe I'll just eat chocolate with my friends or something." SAME.

Ashton Kutcher

So will Mila Kunis be getting a big bouquet of flowers this year? Looks like that's still up in the air. Ashton told Parade magazine, "I hate Valentine's Day. I think every day should be a day of romance. Then, on Valentine's Day, you should get to tell whoever you hate that you cannot stand them. There would be one day of hating, and 364 days of love." LOL

Carrie Underwood

"I'm anti-Valentine's day," the American Idol star said to People magazine in 2009. Like Ashton, she doesn't think one day for love is enough. "Your man shouldn't love you for one day out of 365. He should love you 365 days out of the year." Guess that makes her Canadian hockey-player hubby, Mike Fisher, a very lucky guy!

Eva Mendes

You would think that having the *honor* of spending Valentine's Day with Ryan frickin' Gosling would make you a believer in love and romantic gestures, but the holiday still just isn't Eva's thing. "I'm not a big Valentine’s Day person," the brown-haired beauty said. "I'll probably just order a deep dish and watch The Notebook or something...Just cry and weep." While she was joking about that last part (rumors were circulating that she and Ry were on a break), pizza and The Notebook does seem like the activity of choice for those in the "Valentine's Day sucks" club.

Patrick Dempsey

Ashton's Valentine's Day co-star isn't a huge fan of February 14th either. "I've never really believed in Valentine's Day," he told Reader's Digest. "You're anxious about buying the right gift, but it's really about your heart, not a TV commercial for De Beers diamonds." So true! It's always the thought that counts, not the price tag!

Gillian Jacobs

Considering that Gillian stars in the Netflix show "Love," you'd assume she's a big fan of a day to celebrate the sentiment. Truth is, however — she's not! Gill's said that the day is full of such high expectations and that most people are bound to be left disappointed. "Unless someone gets you a bouquet of diamonds, it's going to feel like a let down," she told Yahoo. While some of us would probably be happy with a lot less than a freaking bouquet of diamonds, it's true that there's a lot of buildup.

Drew Barrymore

Drew certainly seems like a hopeless romantic in her films, but that just might not be the case. The star of the new Netflix zombie show, Santa Clarita Diet said, "I don't think I've ever done that really conventional romantic thing [on Valentine's Day]. I like being with my friends and having a fun time. I feel so bad when that holiday makes people feel really bad, it's so not fair." We need to spread the word: V-Day is just as much fun with a BFF as it is with a BF.

Lauren Conrad

LC is a nonconformist when it comes to the heart-holiday. In 2011, she told People, "I don't think you need a specific day to celebrate your love for someone. I think it can be a Tuesday. It's an everyday thing." Well, this year the holiday is on a Tuesday... but we get what she means!

Jane Lynch

This Glee star said she thinks V-Day is "the most ridiculous holiday. It has been created by greeting cards." In an interview with Yahoo, she and Maggie Lawson agreed that Valentine's Day really is pretty lame.

Maggie Lawson

"Every day should be a day of love," Maggie said during her Yahoo segment with Jane called "5 Reasons Why Celebrities Hate Valentine's Day."

Judd Apatow

This Hollywood director calls the day "scary," saying it's full of "pressure" and "fear" to "make it good." Yeah, for as much as V-Day sucks for single people, it might be even harder for people in committed relationships.

Jay Baruchel

Jay's got a *historical* reason behind his hatred of Valentine's day. He was engaged to someone and then they BRUTALLY dumped him on the day of romance! Yeah, that'll DEF make you a non-believer.
