Katy Perry experienced a lot of ups and downs last night. On the one hand, she was praised for her performance of her new single, “Chained to the Rhythm,” particularly for the political statement she made wearing a “PERSIST” arm band and standing in front of the U.S. Constitution at the end. On the other hand, some of the comments she made on the red carpet prior to the event were so problematic, they basically negate any positive remarks that were made about her act.
While speaking to Ryan Seacrest on the RC, the 32-year-old singer took a few jabs at Britney Spears. When Ryan called attention to Katy’s musical drought prior to “CttR,” the new-blonde explained, “That’s called taking care of your mental health. And I haven’t shaved my head yet.” If you remember, the now-35-year-old “Hold It Against Me” singer shaved her head in 2007 during a very-public mental breakdown.
But, wait, it didn’t stop there. When asked about her new hair hue, Katy said, “It’s like the last color in the spectrum that I can do. I’ve done all of them. The only thing left to do is, like, shave my head, which I’m really saving for a public breakdown.”
Needless to say, the Internet was not pleased:
@katyperry has "activist" in her bio. I dont know what's "activist" about mocking mental illness & perpetuating women cant shave their heads

Katy Perry making light of Britney Spears having an actual mental illness was problematic. And I was rooting for her. #KatyPerryIsOverParty

Drama, drama, drama…
Britney isn’t the only one Katy dissed. KP is also one of the celebs who took a jab at Miley Cyrus:
When Miley first started her current lifestyle, Demi said, "[Miley] knows how I feel about the whole partying thing. I love her to death, and I'm always like, 'Okay, just be careful.' I care for her so much [that] I'm so protective."
Five months later, she was whistling a different tune, "I've always been a really motivated, driven fighter, so when I first got sober I was like, 'I'm gonna show all of you. You think I can't get sober? Well watch me!' And then now I've stuck to it because it's made my life so much better. And there's a lot of young people who look up to me and there needs to be someone that stands out and says it's not about molly and partying and all that stuff." (Remember, Miley likes "dancing with molly.")
Nowadays, the former BFFs are practically strangers, "We're acquaintances... It's life, and people change, and, you know, I don't have anything in common with her anymore, and I wish her all the best."
The curly-haired One Direction guy was sitting in the audience with his bandmates when Miley twerked up against Robin Thicke at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. So, natch, he had an opinion about it... and it wasn't complimentary, "I think it's quite inappropriate... Especially with the age groups that it's aimed at... I think, you know, [twerking] is promoting promiscuity."
The singer seemingly threw shade Miley's way when she blamed the lack of female role models in the industry on those who sell themselves as sex objects.
In an interview with TIME, she stated, "I'm sure there will be things that my grandkids make fun of me for no matter what, but I'd really rather it be, 'Look how awkward your dancing was in the "Shake It Off" video! You look so weird, Grandma!' rather than 'Grandma, is that your nipple?'" And we all know how much Miley LOVES showing off her nipples.
"We're taught to find examples for the way we want our lives to wind up. But I can't find anyone, really, who's had the same career trajectory as mine," she continued.
OUT magazine got the youngest of the Jonas Brothers to talk about his ex and, while he does somewhat compliment her actions, he wasn't exactly a fan of her VMA performance (as if many were), "She's smart. She's very smart. We've always known that about her. She'll always be successful."
But wait, here comes the kicker, "[The performance] was funny — I was laughing."
Nick's brother, however, was a bit more harsh with his critique, "It wasn't my favorite performance of hers. I think that there's one way of saying you've grown up, and there's another way — I think that's her way. Look, people are talking about it, so I think it's working for what she wants."
The audience at one show on Miley's Bangerz tour was floored when she locked lips with the "I Kissed a Girl" singer mid-performance. Absolutely NO ONE would stop talking about it in the media. So, when Katy was approached about it, she finally gave her thoughts on the situation, and they weren't pretty, "I just walked up to her to give her like a friendly girly kiss, you know, as girls do, and then she, like, tried to move her head and go deeper and I pulled away. God knows where that tongue has been. We don't know! That tongue is so infamous."
This coming from the woman who married Russell Brand.
The singer defended BFF Taylor Swift's dance moves because, as weird as they are, at least they don't equate to twerking, which was Miley's signature.
He said in an interview, "Twerking is what strippers do. It's a fact. If you go to a strip club, not that I go to strip clubs, but if you go to a strip club, they twerk. You shouldn't be encouraging little kids to twerk. Stop doing this, Miley Cyrus, please. Stop. Stop. Sing "Wrecking Ball." "Wrecking Ball" is a great song."
The legendary songstress that is Cher, who's not opposed to pushing the envelope, wasn't even a fan of Miley's controversial VMA performance.
She told USA Today, "I'm not old-fashioned. She could have come out naked, and if she'd just rocked the house, I would have said, 'You go, girl.' It just wasn't done well. She can't dance, her body looked like hell, the song wasn't great, one cheek was hanging out. And, chick, don't stick out your tongue if it's coated."
However, she slightly backtracked on her statement, "What I should have said [is], 'I didn't like it that much, but she's Pushing The Envelope, being an ARTIST!' She's Talented,& DIDN'T COMMIT A FELONY."
In his song, "Somewhere in America," Beyonce's hubby took a dig at MiCy, rapping, "When I was talking Instagram, last thing you wanted was your picture snapped. Feds still lurking, they see I'm still putting work in, 'cause somewhere in America, Miley Cyrus is still twerkin', ha! Twerk, twerk, twerk, twerk, twerk, Miley, Miley, twerk, twerk, twerk, Miley, Miley, Miley, twerk. Twerk, yeah, ugh-huh. Twerk, Miley, Miley, Miley — only in America."
After, when a fan asked Jay, "You really think Miley Cyrus still twerking somewhere in America?" He responded, "Yes! She represents an old worlds worst nightmare." BURN.
Another VMA comment! The original American Idol winner tweeted, "Just saw a couple performances from the VMA's last night. 2 words…. #pitchystrippers."
While she never officially stated who she was referring to, many assumed that she was talking about the "We Can't Stop" singer. So, she took care to address that, "Pitchy strippers... It was more me just being funny. I guess I saw about six performances from [the VMAs] and I was just being funny. Everybody says stuff and I didn't even put names on it. People did not think it was funny. I did. That's okay, I make myself laugh."
She added, "That's not my fault. I didn't say any names. I'm not dragging anyone's name in the mud. Everybody's art is their art. I was just simply expressing my artistic point of view. Ain't nothing wrong with being a stripper, maybe be on key. Be the best dang stripper you can be." So... she didn't name names, but she didn't deny that she was talking about Miley either. That's what we learned here.
Not only did Miley dress up as Nicki for Halloween, but she posted a picture of her face on a lighter version of Miss Minaj's body from the rapper's "Anaconda" cover with the hashtag #Hannahconda. And Nicki was NOT having it.
She took to her own Instagram to say, "Give me one good reason why Miley made this her twitter avi. #AnacondaOniTunes." Later, she posted again, stating, "No chill ZONE!!!!"

Not even Mama Stewart (yes, Brooke Shields portrayed Miley's mom on Hannah Montana) supported the singer's VMA antics.
She joked, "I was Hannah Montana’s mother! Where did I go wrong?"
All jokes aside, she went on to say, "I just want to know who's advising her, and why [the racy display] is necessary... Our children can’t watch that... I feel like it's a bit desperate."
