Demi Lovato Gets a Lesson in Biology After She Tweets That She’s 1% African

by: on | in Celebrity News | No Comments

2015 marked a lot of problematic Demi Lovato moments. That was the year she disrespected Caitlyn Jenner‘s transformation, she couldn’t let Zendaya have her moment in the spotlight, she overreacted about a meme (long live Poot Lovato!)… So, when you think about how much the controversies surrounding her have died down, you could consider that progress, right? Well…

When we say “died down,” we don’t mean that they’re gone for good. In fact, the 24-year-old “Stone Cold” singer is now under fire for some of her recent tweets about her background:

You might be thinking, “Okay… What’s the big deal? She’s proud of these unexpected facts about herself.” Nevertheless, there are plenty of people across the Internet, particularly on Twitter, who are outraged about the Grammy-nominated artist’s notes:

Demi, of course, stood up for her messages:

More to the point, though, it wasn’t that the tweets were offensive — considering, based on the report she was given, she was simply pointing out a fact — it was that the tweets included facts that she should know already because, based on biology, we’re all Africans under the skin:

Hopefully, this doesn’t cause her to quit Twitter again.
Demi Lovato’s constantly taking back her WTF quotes:

When Demi got upset about her Met Gala experience.

Drama, drama, drama! After the 2016 Met Gala, Demi decide to stir up some shiz on social media. It all started when Nicki Minaj posted a photo that had both Jeremy Scott and Demi in it, but she did NOT tag the Disney Channel alum in the pic, which led to issues on Demi's end.

Demi posted her reaction with a snap on Snapchat that read, "When you aren't mentioned in a post but didn't do s**t to the person…" As if that weren't enough, she posted a photo on Instagram with Nicki and Jeremy in which she looked awkward and wrote, "This picture pretty much summed up my first and probably last met #cool #sof*ckingawkward #notforme #sweatpants #forensicfiles #whatsgood."

After fans freaked out — or rather didn't really care about her random "poor me" statement — she followed it up and edited the caption writing, "p.s. some of y'all need to learn how to take a joke. I'm obviously laughing at the fact that 1. I look incredibly awkward and 2. That the shade being thrown in this picture actually gives me life." Okay Demi, whatever you say.

The time she dissed Taylor Swift's generous donation.

Despite once being friends with T.Swift, Demi totally shaded her in regards to her $250,000 donation to help Kesha legally fight the music producer who allegedly raped her. Most people thought Tay-Tay's monetary help was a really nice gesture and showed that she was on Kesha's side, but the "Cool for the Summer" singer was not a fan of throwing money at the problem. "Take something to Capitol Hill or actually speak out about something and then I'll be impressed," she tweeted as a dig at Taylor.

Demi then posted an infographic about rape statistics and wrote a long caption about everything wrong with rape culture. She did eventually make a statement about her intense rant against Taylor on Instagram as well. "As most people know, I tend to get fired up about the things I believe in, and although my heart and intentions are always in the right place, unfortunately sometimes my passion gets the best of me and causes me to say things I probably shouldn't say," she wrote. Notice the lack of apology, though?

When she mocked Caitlyn Jenner's boobs.

Whenever Demi is a little uncomfortable with something, she adds a clarifying statement... and that's exactly what she did when she got into some hot water with Caitlyn back in 2015.

On June 1, Caitlyn officially made her debut — the world said goodbye to Bruce Jenner with the help of Vanity Fair's cover shoot and celebrities were very vocal about the new version of the athlete. Demi decided to add in her two cents on the reality star's transformation into Caitlyn, tweeting, "Guys… Caitlyn Jenner has better boobs than I do…"

This comment made a LOT of people mad and many thought Demi's remark was insensitive and rude, as if there's a reason why Caitlyn shouldn't have a good-looking chest. Instead of completely apologizing, Demi did a follow-up tweet claiming she never meant anything bad by her comment. "Seriously though… I'm SO PROUD of Caitlyn Jenner. #obsessed #gorgeous."

The time she attacked Zendaya's Barbie.

When Barbie announced its newest doll, which was made to honor Zendaya's iconic dreadlocks at the Oscars, everyone was excited... except Demi.

After the doll came out, the 23-year-old singer tweeted a little shade saying, "Hey @Barbie, what about a curvy doll or one with true to size measurements? I'll model!!! #raiseyourvoice #besuper." The singer eventually deleted the tweet after receiving a lot of hate and accusations that she was making this all about her when it was supposed to be Zendaya's moment.

In addition to deleting the tweet, she said something else on Twitter to sort of clear the air, but it obviously came off a little harsh. "Media and everyone online: anytime you go to post something negative, or gossipy bullsh*t, go spend time with someone you love. Life way too short," she said. So... still no apology, huh?

When the singer threw shade at One Direction.

In 2014, Demi shut down rumors that she would ever collaborate with 1D in a pretty rude way. "I focus more on collaborations with people who inspire me. Nothing wrong with One Direction but…" Demi said when asked if she'd ever sing with the UK lads.

There was a lot a hate sent her way after she said this major burn, so Dems had to fix it. "I'm not a One Direction fan per say. They're not bad, they're great! But… they're, like, a boy band," she said trying to help the situation, but she clearly made it more awkward.

The moment she got into a Twitter feud with Kathy Griffin.

When Kathy and Demi got into a Twitter feud, it was all fun and games until Demi's fans started to threaten Kathy. The whole incident began when Kathy was asked who the biggest "d***** celebrity" she ever met was and Kathy said Demi. When the former Disney star found out about this insult, she tweeted a picture and said, "Only a 'd*****' to people I can't stand." Her fans then added to the diss train, so Demi decided put a stop to it. "I love you guys so much but y'all gotta chill with sending hate towards other people," she said.

"Regardless of what they say or do.. The cruel things some of you are saying can really, REALLY hurt people. It's called cyber-bullying and somethings should NEVER be wished upon EVER. No matter WHAT." We respect Demi for stopping the threatening tweets, but technically she was being a bully herself when she engaged in this feud, so this feels like a backhanded retraction for her sassy tweet.

When Dems said Justin Bieber was a bad singer.

The "Heart Attack" singer made a lot of enemies when she dissed Justin, but she was quick to take it back or at least defend her actions. In 2013, when Demi was a judge on The X Factor, a contestant sang "As Long as You Love Me" and it was GREAT. "Well, finally someone can sing the song the way it was meant to be sung," Demi allegedly said, which was taken as a major burn about JB.

There was a LOT of negative response to her comment so she later took it back. "Btw - no shade thrown at Justin. So many people audition with his songs.. Finally someone sang it the way it was meant to be sung," she tweeted. "Meaning, finally someone sang it the way JUSTIN sang it."

When Demi dissed Disney Channel actresses.

Alright, so in this case, Demi’s wacky comments came after she made a good point, but she did still get a little out of hand. When Demi saw a few Shake It Up! episodes that made light of eating disorders, which she had, she took to Twitter to shame the network and, in doing so, she also threw shade at the actresses on the series. After telling the network that it was NOT okay to make jokes about eating or not eating she tweeted, "And is it just me or are the actress' getting THINNER AND THINNER.... I miss the days of RAVEN, and LIZZIE MCGUIRE...Dear Disney Channel, EATING DISORDERS ARE NOT SOMETHING TO JOKE ABOUT."

Although she was right about the episodes and they were later taken off the air, in the process she was rude to Zendaya and Bella Thorne, who were both the stars of that series, and Zendaya's father was not happy about it. He tweeted at her and basically called her out for skinny shaming his young daughter who looked up to her for years. Demi quickly changed her tune and tried to say that it wasn't directed at Zendaya at all.

"Just clearing things up, I have nothing against any specific actress/actor or tv show.. Nor do I think there's anything wrong with girls...who aren't curvy, I just was stating a fact that there needs to be more variety on television so young girls growing up don't feel pressured... to look one specific way. Tall, thin, curvy, short, whatever you are, you are beautiful," she said.
