7 TV Characters Who Waited Until Marriage to Have Sex for the First Time

by: on | in TV | No Comments

Sex is a big deal, both IRL and on television shows. If you watch teen TV series like Pretty Little Liars, The Vampire Diaries, Teen Wolf, etc., you know that sex is often a huge topic of discussion, with characters getting down and dirty in basically every episode. Some characters are already experienced in the ~physical~ department, and others test the waters of sexuality as the eps progress. But then you have shows that also focus on another type of character — the one who’s waiting until marriage to lose his or her virginity.

Characters from classic shows like One Tree Hill and Boy Meets World took a note from real-life stars such as Kevin Jonas and Carrie Underwood and saved their first time for their wedding night. Scroll through the gallery below to see which ones we’re talking about, in addition to others who made the same decision!

Haley James Scott, One Tree Hill

You can imagine Lucas Scott's surprise when he walked into Nathan Scott's apartment to find him and Haley, who was vocal about wanting to remain a virgin until marriage, scrambling for clothes.

"Haley, it's cool, I just thought you weren't ready; I thought you were going to wait [to have sex] until you got married..." he said.

"We did wait...we got married last night," she replied, talking about how she, a JUNIOR IN FRICKIN' HIGH SCHOOL, was now a wife.

Cory Matthews, Boy Meets World

Despite the fact that this Boy Meets World character was ready to have sex with his longtime love, Topanga Lawrence, on the night of prom, things got in the way and they weren't able to do the deed. Fortunately, the couple got engaged on the day that they graduated high school and married shortly after, meaning that the wait wasn't too long.

But in true Cory & Topanga form, even their Honeymood didn't go as smoothly as planned and their first time together sexually kept getting interrupted by various (hilarious) things.

Jane Gloriana Villanueva, Jane the Virgin

As you can probably tell from the name of the show, Jane was committed to being a virgin until marriage...even though she accidentally got pregnant via IVF. The character, who promised her grandmother that she wouldn't have sex until her wedding night, kept that vow and lost it when she married her husband, Michael.

Hannah Rogers, Everwood

Although Hannah's boyfriend, Bright, considered breaking up with her when he found out she was waiting for marriage to have sex for the first time, he eventually decided it wasn't an issue and the couple continued dating. Turns out, Chris Pratt's character DID have a problem with it and he wound up cheating on her with a random girl in a bar.

When Hannah learned the truth, she broke up with her bae and told him she didn't want him in her life at all. While the show ended before we ever see the girl get married, it can be assumed she kept her promise to god.

Matt Camden, 7th Heaven

After being asked to write a prescription for birth control for his younger brother's girlfriend, Matt declines and vehemently tries to talk him out of having premarital sex.

"What do you want me to do, Matt? You want me to get married just so I can have sex like you did?" Simon says.

The oldest Camden child tries to defend himself and tells the blond he got married (after one date, BTW) because he was in love and NOT because he wanted to get physical.

Lucy Camden, 7th Heaven

In that same brother-to-brother conversation, Simon also calls out his older sister, Lucy, and says he doesn't agree with her choice to wait until marriage to have sex.
