One of your favorite members of the Hunger Games cast is coming clean… literally. After years of smoking marijuana, Woody Harrelson, who played Katniss and Peeta’s mentor, Haymitch Abernathy, throughout the four-movie franchise, quit the drug… nearly 365 days ago!
While promoting his new movie, Wilson, the 55-year-old actor was questioned by Vulture about a misconception people have about him. To that, he said, “They think I’m a party animal, which… I am a party animal. I mean, that might be one thing. But I am a party animal. But on the other hand, I haven’t… I’m now extremely moderate and… I actually stopped smoking pot almost a year ago.”
When the interviewer revealed his own problems with weed, saying it messes with his head and makes him less productive, Woody agreed that those were problems for him as well. “Yeah, that was a little bit of my issue,” he said. “Just 30 solid years of just partying too f*cking hard.”
So, how does he keep from falling off the wagon and relapsing? “Well, like, last night, someone had — not just good herb but sativa; really good sativa,” Woody explained. (FYI, sativa is a specific species of cannabis.) “There’s a joint, and beautifully rolled. I like a beautifully rolled… and I just was like, I mean, I’ve gone this long. It would be weird to just be like, ‘Okay, let me have a hit off that,’ and then suddenly go back to smoking too much, which is… I don’t have a problem at all with smoking. I think it’s great. I think it’s a great drug, in terms of… Even cops say that the side effect is euphoria. Or the… what do you call it?”
“The effect?” the interviewer chimed in.
“Right,” the actor said. “The effect of it is euphoria. But when you’re doing it all the time, it just becomes… Well, you know. I feel like it was keeping me from being emotionally available.”
“I still drink, Woody added. “But I try to be moderate with the drinking, too.”
The Hunger Games cast is no stranger to scandals…
Jennifer Lawrence's Nude Picture Leak
Along with stars like Ariana Grande & Victoria Justice, the heroine from The Hunger Games fell victim to an iCoud hacking, which resulted in the dissemination of her private snapshots; snapshots that were intended to be seen only by her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Hoult, and herself.
She said to Vanity Fair of the invasion, "Just because I'm a public figure, just because I'm an actress, does not mean that I asked for this. It does not mean that it comes with the territory. It's my body, and it should be my choice, and the fact that it is not my choice is absolutely disgusting. I can't believe that we even live in that kind of world."
She added, "It is not a scandal. It is a sex crime. It is a sexual violation. It's disgusting. The law needs to be changed, and we need to change. That's why these websites are responsible. Just the fact that somebody can be sexually exploited and violated, and the first thought that crosses somebody's mind is to make a profit from it. It's so beyond me. I just can't imagine being that detached from humanity. I can't imagine being that thoughtless and careless and so empty inside."
Jennifer Lawrence Smoking Weed
But the leak wasn't the first scandal involving J.Law. In 2013, while taking a break from filming Catching Fire reshoots in Hawaii, the then-brunette was caught smoking what looks like marijuana on a hotel balcony, along with...
Josh Hutcherson Smoking Weed
...her Hunger Games co-star/love interest! That's right, the dark-haired hunk was right there alongside Jen, smoking... something that was rolled up. They could claim it was something else, but they didn't even bother.
Josh Hutcherson's Naked Photo Circulation
If you thought Jen was the only member of the THG cast who fell victim to a nude photo leak, you thought wrong. In 2013, reports surfaced that the guy who brought Peeta to life on the big screen posted full-frontal nude pics of himself on a hookup site... along with a video of him touching himself.
Liam Hemsworth's Bar Brawl
Don't mess with Gale Hawthorne. In 2012, the Aussie actor was caught camera giving a man a severe beatdown. There's footage of him punching a man in the face, and pushing his head down toward the asphalt. Somehow, he managed to skate away without an arrest.
Liam Hemsworth's Cheating Scandal(s)
One day after Miam's breakup rocked the Internet, he was already spotted locking lips with actress/singer Eiza Gonzalez, leading many to suspect that he had cheated on Miley Cyrus before they actually called it quits.
But, even if you disregard that whole debacle, there were still plenty of rumors flying around that he hooked up with January Jones when he was very much still in a relationship with his then-fiancee.
Amandla Stenberg's Feud with Kylie Jenner
The girl who played fan-favorite Rue in the first Hunger Games film made headlines last summer after calling out Kylie Jenner for cultural appropriation.
Underneath an Instagram photo of Kylie rocking cornrows, Amandla posted, "when you appropriate black features and culture but fail to use your position of power to help black Americans by directing attention towards your wigs instead of police brutality or racism #whitegirlsdoitbetter."
Kylie's response: "Mad if I don't, mad if I do... Go hang with Jaden [Smith] or something."
Woody Harrelson's Arrest Count
Haymitch Abernathy's known to be a drunk, and, apparently his alter ego is no saint either.
In 1982, Woody was arrested for disorderly conduct after he was found dancing in the middle of the street, and then charged with resisting arrest. He got out of jailtime by paying fines.
In 1996, he was arrested again after he planted four hemp seeds to challenge the state law which did not distinguish between industrial hemp and marijuana. He was released on $200 bail the same day he was booked.
In 2002, the actor was arrested again after an incident in a taxi that ended in a police chase. Once again, he was released not too soon after.
Jeffrey Wright's DWI
Beetee seems like angel, but the actor who portrays him is far from it. In 2013, prior to the release of Catching Fire, Jeffrey was pulled over around 3a for an unknown traffic violation. But, when cops detected what smelled like alcohol and administered a sobriety test, he was arrested and booked for DWI.
Prosecutors eventually dropped the case due to a lack of evidence.
Philip Seymour Hoffman's Overdose
February 2, 2014 marked a sad event in Hollywood, as renowned Hollywood actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his Manhattan apartment at age 46. The autopsy revealed that cause of death was an acute mixed drug intoxication of heroin, cocaine, benzodiazepines and amphetamine.
