9 of the Most Cringeworthy Quotes to Ever Come Out of Demi Lovato’s Mouth

by: on | in Celebrities | No Comments

Demi Lovato is a force to be reckoned with. Since shooting to fame on Disney Channel’s Sonny With a Chance, she’s become a chart-topping singer, advocate for erasing the stigma of mental health issues and even won the GLAAD Vanguard Award last year. There’s no question that that the 24-year-old is smart, strong and powerful — but not gonna lie, some of the sh*t that comes out of her mouth is seriously questionable.

While we’ve gotta believe her heart is in the right place, the “Body Say” singer has a serious problem with word vomit. Keep scrolling to see 9 Demi quotes that will make you say, “Oooh, that’s awk!” We’ve all put our foot in our mouth at one point or another, but thankfully, we’re not famous like DL so we don’t have millions of people judging us for doing so.

When She Was Super Literal

What she said: "I like mugs because they're very comfortable in your hand and they hold the hot things that you don't have to touch."

This quote was in response to a question from a host on German radio station NRJ asking her what her "favorite dish" was. "Dish," you know, as in "meal"?

If you've seen Miss Congeniality with Sandra Bullock, then you remember that part where her friend is asked to describe the "perfect date" and she says, "April 25th, because it's not too hot, not too cold. All you need is a light jacket!" Basically, it was exactly that.

Later, the lady of the hour claimed she was joking... but after watching the vid, we're still not too sure.

When She Invented Feminism

What she said: "I considered myself a feminist before it was cool."

Just throwing it out there — Demi Lovato was NOT the first person to be a feminist "before it was cool." Do we need to give a history lesson? Instead of categorizing people as "good feminists" or "bad feminists," "real feminists" or "fake feminists," let's just all unite and stand together.

When People Thought She Was Racist

What she said: "I do believe that Latin people are just more expressive, more passionate with their emotions."

While gushing over her then-boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama, Demi ended up saying something that had a lot of people raising their brows. This quote, which compared Latin men to white men, got labeled "racist" by a large amount of fans.

While we don't necessarily agree with their description, it did seem to unnecessarily suggest an inherent difference between people of different races and ethnicities, which is just not a cool move.

When She Got Deep About the Universe

What she said: "There could possibly be mermaids, which is — actually, an alien species, which lives in parts of the Indian Ocean, which we have never explored before as human beings. And Christopher Columbus had actually seen three mermaids on his way to America."

During a sit-down chat on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Demi revealed her somewhat ~nonconventional~ beliefs on aliens and mermaids and how they relate to Christopher Columbus. She's a self-proclaimed lover of conspiracy theories, but this sure is a wacky one!

When She Was Super Excited About a DNA Test

What she said: "And I'm 1% African!!!!"

Demi was PUMPED after she got the results from her ancestry test, so much so that she shared the results on her Twitter. She wrote, "I did a DNA test and found out I'm mainly Spanish, with Native American, SCANDINAVIAN (which I had NO idea), Irish, BRITISH..." and then in a separate tweet wrote, "And I'm 1% African!!!!"

Many were put off that she singled out her African roots (FYI, almost everyone is AT LEAST 1 percent African because of biology and evolution) and took her comment to be this weird form of cultural appropriation.

The singer did apologize and a lot of her fans came to her defense saying that being excited about her lineage is nothing to be sorry for.

When She Commented on Caitlyn Jenner's Boobs

What she said: "Guys.... Caitlyn Jenner has better boobs than I do..."

If you don't know WHAT to say... just don't say anything! That's a lesson Demi should've learned long ago. While her intention wasn't to be terribly problematic, her tweet after Caitlyn Jenner came out was very transphobic. Basically, many perceived her words to mean something along the lines of, "No trans person should ever look better than a cis person," which is just effed up.

Soon thereafter, the "Body Say" crooner ate her words and threw her support at Kylie and Kendall Jenner's dad, saying she's "SO PROUD" of her decision to publicly transition.

When She Called Out Her ~Haters~

What she said: "If you watch everything I do, you're still a fan.. I ain't goin nowhere bitches."

This "truth-bomb" was dropped after Demi got in some hot water over a Snapchat where her mom said, "Everybody down in Rio gonna get the Zika virus," and she could be heard laughing in the background.

While she did initially apologize for making light of a deadly disease saying, "In no way did I mean to offend anyone last night. I was laughing at how southern my mom sounded, not the issue at hand," she eventually backtracked a bit.

The girl later said that anyone who was offended was OBVIOUSLY a fan because they're still watching. Not sure we see the logic...

When She Wasn't Impressed by Taylor Swift

What she said: "Take something to Capitol Hill or actually speak out about something and then I'll be impressed."

After Demi's nemesis, Taylor Swift, donated $250,000 to Kesha during her rape trial, the former Disney Channel star needed the world to know that throwing money at an issue wouldn't solve it.

Sure, it would've been really good for the "Bad Blood" songstress to speak up in support of Kesha and against sexual violence, but that doesn't diminish the fact that she did an incredible thing to help an amazing woman. DL, on the other hand, took the issue and (once again) made it about herself.

When She Wasn't Tagged in a Picture

What she said: "When you aren't mentioned in a post but didn't do sh*t to the person..."

There seemed to be some dram-ah brewing between Demi and Nicki Minaj after a photo surfaced of the rapper throwing a furious side eye Dem's way at the 2016 Met Gala. The "Heart Attack" singer initially took it in stride and posted the pic with a jokey comment, but when NM didn't tag her in her own IG post, s*it hit the fan,

Demi wrote the above caption on a confused-looking Snapchat that was obvz directed at Nicki's post. The whole thing was petty AF and the "Anaconda" hitmaker didn't even bother to respond... publicly, at least.
