The highly-anticipated drama 13 Reasons Why — Selena Gomez‘s passion project — finally made its Netflix debut and it’s all we can seem to talk about lately. The teen series follows the troubling suicide of Hannah Baker, a student at Liberty High School, and the classmates responsible for her death. After spending a weekend binging out on the TV adaptation of the young adult novel, the show left us ***stunned*** to say the least.
If you haven’t caught up on 13 Reasons Why, you’re missing out. Luckily, the entire first season is available, so you still have a chance to see what all the fuss is about. The show has already racked up a steady following with fan theories popping up all over the web. For those of us who are still reeling from the epic finale, let’s dive right in. *SPOILER ALERT* — consider yourself warned!
1. Alex Actually Didn’t Try to Commit Suicide. Who could forget the major cliffhanger Season 1 left on after Alex Standall shot himself in the head? At the close of the episode, Principal Bolan rushes to tell Mr. Porter that Alex shot himself in the head and is in critical condition. As it turns out, it’s possible that Alex didn’t shoot himself and may have been shot by Tyler.
Earlier on the episode, we see Tyler stashing away guns in a trunk in his room before his mom walks in which makes it seem like he might be planning a school shooting. According to Refinery29, when Tyler takes down Alex’s picture in his darkroom, it’s because he already shot him in the head and made it look like Alex attempted suicide to cover it up. The theory even suggests that the school shooting won’t take place and that Tyler has 13 targets in the school who he plans to kill in what he will frame as attempted suicides.
2. Justin is the One in the Ambulance. After zooming in closely to the scene of the ambulance on the last episode, you can faintly see someone with brown hair peeking through their bandage, not Alex’s bleach blonde hair. According to a video uploaded by Shine On Media, it could be someone else entirely like Justin Foley, who may have gotten a hold of a gun and shot himself. It’s possible that Justin was suicidal after running away from home and telling Jessica Davis that he thought about jumping off a crane.
3. Mr. Porter Will Get Rid of His Tape. Clay has a conversation with Mr. Porter in which he reveals that he knows Hannah spoke with his office the day she died. After telling Mr. Porter that Bryce Walker was the one who sexually assaulted Hannah, he gives Mr. Porter the tapes and lets him decide if he will share them with the school administration or sweep it under the rug. One Tumblr user suspects that Mr. Porter will throw out his tape, which is also the same tape the contains Bryce’s confession. Since Mr. Porter has a wife and child, he may try to keep quiet and remove himself from the tapes in order to save his job and support his family.
“…there’s no doubt Porter would lose his job and never be able to counsel again. He wouldn’t chance it so he’d get rid of his tape, even though he knows it could [bring] forth the justice Hannah and Jess deserve.”
Only time will tell what other fan theories come about. Until then, the show will leave us guessing as we anxiously wait around for a potential Season 2. What are your 13 Reasons Why theories? Comment below!
Here’s how Selena Gomez met six of her closest friends:
Any true Delena stan knows that the (former) besties owe their gratitude to a big, purple dinosaur.
"We met in line at Barney," Selena told YoungHollywood.com. "We were auditioning at this huge event, and it was all, like, it was so hot, and it was 1,400 kids and we sat right in line together. It was awesome."
Here's hoping they'll kiss and make up one day!
At least something good came out of their past heartbreaks — Sel & Tay met through their now-ex-boyfriends!
"We actually both met backstage at a Jonas Brothers concert," the brunette beauty explained on The Ellen Show. That was all the way back in 2008!
"Taylor and I dated Jonas Brothers together," she told the Herald Sun on a separate occasion. "We met when she was 18. I was 15 or 16. She was so great to me. Then we became best friends. She would fly out to see me when I was going through something really hard. We'd eat a lot of fattening food and vent."
Jelena's not exactly close at the moment... but you know the deal with the on-again/off-again couple: Justin & Selena always find a way back to each other.
Their relationship started all the way back in 2009. It wasn't romantic at the time (so Selena says, anyway), but they did develop a sorta-sibling-like relationship (ick).
So, how'd they meet? A Hollywood party? Through a mutual friend? "Actually, his manager called my mom, who's my manager," Selena said on Late Show with David Letterman). Ah, so we have Scooter Braun and Mandy Teefey to
blame thank, huh?
After the shocking & tragic death of the Voice alum earlier this year, Selena briefly spoke about the beginning of their friendship during one of her concerts. "When she was 14, we met her and my parents and I signed her," Sel explained.
In an interview with E! News, which was unearthed soon after the shooting, the "With Love" singer revealed her history with SG. "Selena's mom did find a video of mine, and then she told Brian [Teefey], her husband, to kind of go after me in a not creepy way," she said. "But that's kind of how I got picked up with them. And ever since then, it's been really great. I've been doing a lot of work out in LA and back. She is the most normal person — and I'm not just saying that because I know her, I'm just saying — I met her, and she was like getting food for me and my parents. I was like, 'Sit down! We should be serving you.' I was actually in a Dream Out Loud commercial, I was in the background. That's when I first met her."
Zeddlena had far from a romantic start. "It was about as random as it gets," Zedd once said on AMP Radio's morning show in LA. "I had the day off and I decided to go buy stuff for my house because I just moved, so I have an empty house, and I had to pee. I had my engineer with me, so I was like, 'I hope they have a bathroom.' He was like, 'Just go to the studio over there,' which was across the street from my studio."
"So I walk in and John, the head of our label, who had just signed Selena, was there," he continued. "He was like, 'Have you ever met Selena?' So he introduced me to her, and was like, 'Hey, she's cool, maybe we should make a song together.' And then like a week later, we start working on a song together."
The Wizards of Waverly Place alum told KTU in June 2015 that she met the Friends star "through my management — they manage her as well — so it was kind of like a friendly meeting and instantly she's, like, inviting me to her house."
But, years prior, she told a far different tale about her first encounter with the famed actress. "I was shaking!" she told Just Jared Jr. in June 2009. "I ran into Jennifer in the bathroom [at the Women in Film 2009 Crystal and Lucy Awards] and she goes, 'Hi!' My legs started to shake and I ran. I didn't know what to do because I freaked out."
"I always say that I worship Rachel McAdams as a movie actress," she continued, "but for comedy — the whole reason I started my show and mannerisms, they were after Jennifer Aniston. It was so funny, they were playing clip reels of the work she's done and I quoted the whole thing. Every single thing she'd say, I would say it. People were sitting there laughing at me and they're like, 'Wow, you're obsessed.' I freaked out, but I was happy she got the [Crystal] Award."
Things have certainly changed since then. Now, they actually hang out! "She has a pizza oven," she told radio host Carolina Bermudez. "Like, we've made pizzas at her house. She's very cool and very sweet. She kind of gives me a lot of, like, maternal advice."
