Somewhere in the middle of the school year, the excitement for prom season begins to die down and transforms into full-blown terror. Should you go? Should you just stay home? What should you wear? How are you going to get there? And, most importantly… who are you even going to go with?!
For some, this decision is super easy. If you’re one of the lucky ones who have a high school sweetheart (or a BFF you’ve agreed to go with years ago), it’s pretty much a no-brainer. But for most high school students, this is not the case at all, and they’re left with just one other option: Emma Stone. (Well, not exactly) Allow us to explain…
Over the past several years, there’s been an ongoing trend of superfans inviting their celeb crushes to prom. It’s actually kind of genius given the often-miraculous nature of the Interwebz. Plus, if you manage to ask in such a way that sets off a viral Internet super-storm, you may just get a response back from your celebrity soulmate (and maybe even score a date)! Here are some of your fave stars and the super creative and funny ways they were asked to prom by regular teens just like you:
The most recent viral "promposal" to hit the Twitter-verse in recent years was created by high school junior Jacob Staudenmeier of Phoenix, Arizona.
In just two days, Jacob's tweet, which features a video of him and his friends recreating the opening scene of La La Land, reached almost 20k retweets and over 40k likes. The video is pretty much spot-on, with Jacob and his classmates dancing and singing to his own original lyrics in the middle of a traffic jam in the school parking lot.
Sadly, Emma's unable to make it, but she called his stunt "the greatest proposal I've ever received."
"I can't tell you what an honor that was and how much I smiled throughout that beautifully orchestrated video," she wrote. "I'm in London working, but I hope you have the best time at prom and I'm grateful you thought of me."
Two years ago, back when Vine star Cole LaBrant was a single guy in high school, he decided he would take a chance and ask Selena Gomez to prom.
In the video, which now has over 2.8 million views, Cole is seen in many different locations around his hometown of Enterprise, Alabama, singing along to Selena's greatest hits. Although she never responded to the video, which included some quirky costumes and intricate choreography, things eventually worked out pretty well for Cole, who is now happily engaged to musical.ly star Savannah Soutas.
There was a solid year or two when just about every high school girl on the planet wanted to take Justin Bieber to her prom… but only one girl ever came close.
Back in 2012, Cady Eimer launched a massive campaign in hopes that Justin Bieber would notice and be her date for prom. The campaign included a Twitter account dedicated to her cause, several YouTube videos pushing her agenda and a website that documented her progress.
Unfortunately, when prom rolled around, Justin couldn't make it, but he did provide the high school with a shout-out video that was played at the event, AND invited Cady and her sister to join him at the Billboard Music Awards. What a score!

In perhaps the most LOL-worthy promposal to ever exist, Matt Peterson, a Miley Cyrus superfan, asked the star to accompany him prom... in the nude!
That's right, in a viral video created by Matt, he recounts all of the memories he has of Miley, including meeting her at a local radio station and getting a shout-out at the singer's Wonder World Tour in Glendale, AZ.
Well, just a few years later and it seemed like Matt really... matured. Wearing absolutely no clothes and covering himself with Miley's infamous foam finger, Matt popped the question. The best part? He assured Miley that if she's not into slow dancing, he "goes to public school where grinding is allowed." LOL.
Miley ultimately couldn't make it to Matt's prom, but she more than made it up to him when she invited him to meet her on her Bangerz Tour, where he gave her a corsage and they took an epic prom pic, along with a bunch of fun selfies.

As it turns out, a promposal video is way more convincing when you feature friends and school faculty who can personally vouch for why you'd be an awesome date.
In an extremely amusing video to Victoria Justice, Max Whitmore's peers are featured listing off the things that make him so great, citing his "tight pants" and "fantastic butt" as valid reasons why she should at least consider accompanying him on prom night.
Victoria saw the video and was so impressed at the lengths Max went to get her attention that she even made a video back! In the video, Victoria apologized for not being available on his prom weekend, but she told him she would love to get lunch with him sometime.
And it didn't end there! Victoria actually showed up to his school to surprise him and give him a kiss on the cheek!!!

In a 2013 YouTube video that has now been viewed over 3 million times, 17-year-old Jake Davidson asked supermodel Kate Upton to be his date to senior prom. While Jake admitted in the video that the two don't have a ton in common, he did make a good argument when he said, "You're on the cover of Sports Illustrated. I read Sports Illustrated."
The video got so much attention so fast that Jake even appeared on The TODAY Show, where Kate phoned in to give her official response.
Unfortunately, she wasn't able to attend, but that didn't stop Jake from showing up to prom with another absolutely stunning Sports Illustrated supermodel: Nina Agdal. Go, Jake!

Dan & Phil
What's better than one prom date? TWO! In a YouTube video watched over 78,000 times, Krysta Bound asked YouTube stars Dan and Phil to accompany her to prom.
The hilarious video included an original song called, "Krysta Gets All of the Men," and she even superimposed Dan and Phil's faces next to hers to show them how good they'd all look if they went together!
While Dan and Phil did see the video, they unfortunately didn't get around to taking Krysta to her prom, probably on account of the fact that they live all the way in London.

In 2014, high school senior Talia Maselli of Connecticut set her sights high when she decided to ask one of the busiest men in the whole country to be her prom date: then-Vice President Joe Biden.
In a handwritten letter she sent to the VP seven months before her actual prom, Talia wrote, "I am inviting you so far in advance because I am sure many 17-year-old girls send you prom invitations & and I had to beat them to it."
Talia wasn't expecting to hear back at all, but on the day before prom, she received a delivery that included a corsage and a handwritten note from the VP himself! In the letter, Joe apologized for not being able to attend Talia's prom, but invited her to be his guest at the West Wing of the White House!
