Fans Flip Out Because Harry Styles’ New Song is ~Definitely~ About Taylor Swift

by: on | in Celebrities | No Comments

One Direction fans know how fast rumors can spread, especially on Twitter. But perhaps no one was fully ready for the level of insanity that was reached when Harry Styles debuted his solo album title, release date, cover and tracklist this morning.

Yes, Directioners were freaking the eff out over the fact that the “Sign of the Times” singer’s CD will be here before they know it and the hot AF shirtless pictures, but one thing in particular caused them to absolutely lose their sh*t — a song called “Ever Since New York.”

The track quickly started trending on Twitter, despite the fact that no one listened to it, knows anything about it, etc., because they’re con-freakin’-vinced that it’s going to be about Taylor Swift.

NGL, the “evidence” people have to support this theory is pretty minimum. Sure, Tay has a song called “Welcome to New York” and Haylor was seen smooching in the city in 2013, but the 23-year-old’s upcoming tune really could be about anything in the world. But hey — stranger things have happened! Maybe “ESNY” really will be about the “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” crooner. Good thing May 12th isn’t too far away!!

______
Maybe Harry will deny that “Ever Since New York” is about Taylor, just like these other singers did about their own music:

Calvin Harris

Famous ex: Taylor Swift

After Calvin's highly publicized split with Taylor, who is known for writing songs about her exes, it seemed inevitable that whoever released the next track would be swarmed with rumors that it was about the messy breakup. So, when "My Way" dropped, which features the lyrics, "Why wait to say / At least I did it my way / Lie awake, two faced / But in my heart I understand / I made my move / And it was all about you / Now I feel so far removed / You were the one thing in my way / You were the one thing in my way," people were sure the "you" in question was the "Blank Space" singer.

However, the Scottish DJ claims the concept came to him several years ago, long before Tay even came into his life. He told Z100, "I thought of the concept years ago when I left [grocery store] Safeway. I was trying to move to London and I was working in the store in Scotland. I was trying to go down and make music for a living, but I couldn't because I didn't have any money." Later, during an interview for On Air With Ryan Seacrest, he expanded that the song could be about basically anything, "It could be a job that you hate, and then you quit the job then life is awesome. It could be about a relationship and you get rid of the girl or the guy then life is awesome." WELL, Calvin, guess we'll take your word on this one.

Tyler Posey

Famous ex: Seana Gorlick

When this Teen Wolf guy and his bae of 10 years went to Splitsville in 2014, he took to YouTube to perform an original song. "The Nameless Song" opens with the words, "She ruined everything for me / Left a bad taste / It's still hard to breath / Scared I'll run into her again."

Considering he posted the tune a mere month after the breakup, it seemed safe to say that there was enough context to figure out he was bashing his former fiance.

However, when J-14 reported that the song was inspired by the brunette, Tyler slammed the mag with a tweet saying, "@J14Magazine hey get your facts right. This isn't about her. If you paid any attention I wrote it years ago. Who the hell writes for you?" Wowowowow. That's awk.

Justin Bieber

Famous ex: Selena Gomez

Jelena is usually pretty open and honest when it comes to announcing which songs were written about one another. Sel had no problem declaring "The Heart Wants What it Wants" to be about her "Love Yourself" ex, and Justin did say that three songs off of his album Purpose were written about the former Wizards of Waverly Place star. However, during an interview with Ellen Degeneras, the hitmaker said "What Do You Mean" wasn't about his famous ex, but about "women in general." ....K.

"I wrote the song for women in general. I just never know what women are thinking 'cause they say one thing and they mean another thing and then they're like 'do this' and 'don't do this' and then I’m like, 'What do you mean?'"

Abigail Breslin

Famous ex: Michael Clifford

Abigail didn't just say that her song "You Suck" isn't about Michael, but actually confirmed the pair was never even a couple!

"We never dated, we literally hung out twice, he got me tickets to a One Direction show and we went to dinner and that was it."

Yet, the lyrics seem to point out some of the 5 Seconds of Summer guy's distinctive features like a tattoo that says 'To the Moon' (her lyric says "I hate your dumb tattoo / I wish you'd fly to the moon"), a scar above his eye and his bandmates ("All your band mates are hotter than you"). RUDE!

Ellie Goulding

Famous ex: Ed Sheeran

While Ellie's song "On My Mind" def seems like an angry breakup track and came soon after she and Ed split among rumors of her cheating with Niall Horan, she told MTV, "I'm sorry to all the people that want [the song] to be about someone — it's not. It's like a myth."

Chris Brown

Famous ex: Rihanna

When Chris released "Sorry" in 2015, people immediately wanted to link it to his highest profile relationship with Rihanna. Since the rapper violently assaulted the "Needed Me" singer during their romance, it seemed like a song titled, "Sorry" would be an understatement. While a few lines could apply to his relationship with RiRi, CB declared that's not the case, and instead sources said it was actually about his relationship with actress and model, Karrueche Tran.

Katy Perry

Famous ex: Russell Brand

Katy sings about a diamond ring that "doesn't mean a thing" in "Part of Me," which seemed to be a reference to her failed marriage with the Take Me to the Greek actor. Yet, when asked about it, KP did what a lot of others do: claimed she wrote it before their relationship ended. The timeline doesn't quite make sense, but Katy said explicitly that the song is not about Russell, so it is what it is.

Travie McCoy

Famous ex: Katy Perry

Before Katy didn't write a song for her ex-husband, her other ex didn't write a song about her!

The brunette beauty and the Gym Class Heroes singer dated for nearly two years before breaking up in the end of 2008, yet when "Don't Pretend" came out in 2010, people really wanted it to be about the "Fireworks" crooner and her new bae. The lyrics say, "I knew about him the whole time, the hotels, phone calls shit the whole nine / But I guess that's what friends are for, and I've come to a conclusion that you're nothing but a very selfish person."

Travie responded to the rumors saying, "I would never throw darts at Katy or Russell. I wish them the best."

Lady Gaga

Famous ex: Taylor Kinney

While fans were questioning if Lady Gaga's "Perfect Illusion" was about the Vampire Diaries actor to whom she'd been engaged after its initial release, she shut down those rumors almost immediately. She told Andy Cohen Live, "I love Taylor so, so much and this song is not a hit out against Taylor," mentioning she would "never use [her] song or want to use the public to hurt anyone that [she] love[s] so much." Instead, she said the tune was about relationships in general and should be something almost everyone can relate to.

Nick Cannon

Famous ex: Mariah Carey

Nick's song "Oh Well" features lines about someone moving out of the house they share to be with another man. Obviously, considering that the Nickelodeon star and pop diva had been married for eight years, people saw a link between his words and her actions.

Nick went to Twitter to say, "Sorry to disappoint the bottom feeders but you won’t be hearing any diss records from me unless it's about the GOVERNMENT! LOL." Considering the two seem to do a great job at co-parenting, and the actor even wished Mariah congrats on her (short-lived) engagement to James Packer, we believe that he wasn't speaking from experience.
