8 Girl-on-Girl Celebrity Feuds That Were Probably DEFINITELY Fake

by: on | in Celebrities | No Comments

Hopefully this isn’t earth-shattering, brand-new information to any of our readers, but *NEWSFLASH* the world is sexist. Nothing gets people talking like a feisty catfight, which means girl-on-girl celebrity drama is just another trick in Hollywood’s arsenal to make some major money. Sure, feuds involving any gender tend to attract an audience (which is why there’s so much fake beef in the rap industry, too — Drake v. Meek Mill, anyone?), but seriously, watching women snap at one another seems to be a great American pastime.

This isn’t to say all famous dramatic rivalries are fakes. In fact, many thought Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus‘ VMA “Miley, What’s Good?” conflict was completely BS (the VMAs are known for publicity stunts crazy events), but after a thorough look at the evidence, experts in the field (a.k.a. diehard fans) have resolved that this particular confrontation was too legit to quit. Miles and Nick may been proven innocent in that case, but they both (and 14 others!) are on blast below for some other questionable “feuds” they’ve participated in before:

Taylor Swift v. Katy Perry

The former country singer and the sometimes-bottled-brunette crooner has been long, drawn out and confusing for most of us.

Apparently, it all started with Katy stealing the backup dancers from Tay's tour, but they also have an ex-boyfriend in common, John Mayer, and were thought to be friends up until the tour dancer fiasco.

Two popular diss tracks, "Bad Blood" by Taytay, and Katy's "Swish Swish," were born out of this iconic fight and recently, the 32-year-old pop star told James Corden that she wanted to bury the hatchet with her 27-year-old nemesis. However, it was with the release of "Swish Swish" that people started skeptically raising an eyebrow to this supposed rivalry.

As all of us know, the only accurate response to any feud is by hitting your new foe with the unfollow. Like, did you see the fall out from Luke Hemmings' breakup with Arzaylea? Basically everyone smacked that girl with a hard hit of the unfollow button. But what was revealed recently is that despite actual years of public shades and sly digs, neither Katy nor Taylor have unfollowed the other on social media. While a couple people think the following can be simply explained with a "keep your friends close and your enemies closer"-type argument, others are calling a major BS on this whole celebrity feud thing.

Selena Gomez v. Miley Cyrus

Sel herself has called this Disney Channel feud over Nick Jonas a complete lie!

While the two did both date the Jonas Brothers alum around the same time, Selena basically said they were all young and it was NBD. In 2016, the Wizards of Waverly Place actress told W magazine, "We never feuded. We both [just] liked the same guy when we were 16." That doesn't quite explain the whole YouTube channel back-and-forth that happened in 2008, or Miley singing the song "FU" to a photo of Selena during her Bangerz Tour except maybe that they knew it would make headlines, which automatically equals dollar signs.

Naya Rivera v. Lea Michele

Everybody knows there was a lot of drama going down behind the scenes of Glee. While a lot of the rumors surrounded which costars were hooking up backstage, the fight between the head divas of the show definitely kept people entertained. Even though Naya did talk some major $h*! about Lea in her book, Sorry, Not Sorry, she ultimately said, "The rumors of our 'feud' were blown out of proportion." Some, however, think it wasn't "blown out of proportion" — it was totally made up.

Fans have said the whole BTS feud was used as a ploy for free publicity for Glee as the show's viewership started to decline AND even that Naya only mentions details about fighting with Lea in her book hoping that it will attract readers (and news stories). It certainly wouldn't be the first time that an on-set fight wasn't exactly nonfiction...

Jennette McCurdy v. Ariana Grande

While on the subject of co-star feuds being straight-up publicity stunts, we should probably talk about the Sam & Cat stars.

As the Nickelodeon show aired its final season, reports on drama between Ari and Jennette started to become all the talk. While Jennette admits they "butted heads," she later described it as more of a sisterly dynamic, meaning any gossip of a brutal feud was totally a lie.

Lindsay Lohan v. Hilary Duff

Remember when we were talking about Sel and Miley's alleged feud? Well, it was actually the "Good for You" singer who pointed out that they weren't the first fake feud to stem out of the Disney realm. In that same interview with W magazine, Selena compared her faux feud with the Hannah Montana alum to a certain girl-on-girl fight that was supposedly all about Aaron Carter.

"It was just a Hilary Duff–Lindsay Lohan thing: 'Oh, my God, we like the same boy!' Sel explained.

While the "Aaron's Party" f*ckboy did admit he left the Lizzie McGuire actress for LiLo (and also said he'll forever regret it), Hil acts like the whole love triangle was never that big of a deal.

In 2012, Lindsay and Hilary were chilling again, according to Perez Hilton, and the mother of one said that Aaron's confessions of love were a little strange considering they "don't know each other."

Well, with Selena's blessing, we're going to officially put this fight over Aaron Carter in the FALSE column.

Britney Spears v. Christina Aguilera

We talked about Selena v. Miley, and Lindsay v. Hilary, so now we've gotta take it way back to the OG Disney Channel feud — and perhaps one of the fakest of them all.

While the two are obvs both pop divas who grew up on The All-New Mickey Mouse Club and moved on to make similar music, it seems like the only time they really have something to say about one another in the media is when they're promoting something!

The two have def thrown shade at one another here and there, but ultimately it looks like their beef is more a ploy for attention than actual hatred.

Nicole Richie v. Paris Hilton

Paris and Nicole were the co-hosts of The Simple Life and longtime BFFs, so when an apparent feud emerged between the two reality stars and they started doing their show separately, everything seemed pretty legit... except that both girls SERIOUSLY cashed in on this feud.

Paris dropped a track called "Jealousy," pointed at Lionel Richie's darling daughter (who had written a book called The Truth About Diamonds, which got free publicity from the feud, too).

Ultimately, Paris herself even admitted that their "rivalry" was fake on David Letterman. The fight started in May 2005 and, one year later, they were fully reconciled once again and planning to film the next season of The Simple Life together.

Mariah Carey v. Nicki Minaj

When it comes to reality television, everybody knows that some good fights mean some good ratings. So when it came to American Idol, a talent competition, it doesn't exactly seem like the best place for some Jersey Shore-esque bickering. Unless, of course, the judges get in on it. Cue Mariah and Nicki, who, despite their previous musical collab, were suddenly archenemies who couldn't stand working together.

A "leaked" video showed Nicki cursing out the "Shake It Off" singer behind the scenes and other insiders were all too quick to give information to the press. Nicki's no newbie to feuding, but she and Mariah just might have been laughing about it as they walked into the bank to cash those fat American Idol checks.
