British actors ditch their accents for the American movie screens all the time, but it never ceases to amaze us when a star from the U.K. absolutely SLAYS the USA dialect. In fact, some celebrities pull off the switcheroo so well that most people have no IDEA that the person in their favorite movies actually comes from a different country. Case in point, British heartthrobs playing American superheros in some of the biggest blockbusters around.
We’re just gonna say it — British people are generally hotter than most others. Perhaps this is why American casting directors like to use them in their films, even though their accents may pose an obstacle. Read on to see which of your favorite superheroes hid their English roots enough that you didn’t even notice that they’re from across the pond:
This British hottie wasn’t interested in playing a 007 — he wanted to be a superhero! And luckily for him, he looks (and acts) the part. He'll be appearing on movie screens as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Homecoming when the film hits theaters on July 7!
Don’t worry, guys — there's plenty of room in our lives for two Spider-Men. Andrew Garfield is another British actor who, like Tom Holland, brought Peter Parker to life on the big screen. He got his American accent down for both The Amazing Spider-Man in 2012 and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014.
Heartthrob Nicholas Hoult has more than a couple major motion pictures under his belt, including playing Hank McCoy/Beast in the X-Men franchise. The only thing that could make him hotter at this point would be if he had a British accent! Oh, wait…
This name probably rings a bell, because it's been floating around in the American superhero world for quite some time now. Aaron Taylor-Johnson starred in Kick-Ass and Kick-Ass 2 alllll the way back in 2010 and 2013. He made his ~super~ (hehe) comeback in 2015 when he played Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015.
Henry Cavill is the ultimate Superman. A) just look at him, and B) JUST LOOK AT HIM. This British hunk appeared in Man of Steel in 2013, and since people couldn't get enough , he returned to the character in Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League in 2016 and 2017.
If you're gonna have a crush on any superhero that ever existed, it's obviously Batman. He's the definition of tall, dark and handsome, making British heartthrob Christian Bale a perfect actor to play the role. His first appearance came back in 2005 in Batman Begins and, since then, we've drooled over him in the two Dark Knight films.
We just want to say... Jamie makes a way hotter British guy than giant piece of rock. In Fantastic Four, he plays Ben Grimm (also known as The Thing) very convincingly — but we prefer him IRL. *Swoon*.
Benedict Cumberbatch is so British, we didn't think he could even pull off the American superhero thing. Thankfully, we stand corrected! He played a perfect Doctor Strange in 2016, and left fans wanting even more.
