6 Actors Who HATE the Teen Television Show That Made Them Famous

by: on | in TV | No Comments

You might think actors and actresses only sign up to be on television shows they’re absolutely obsessed with, but — surprise, surprise! — that’s not how the real world works. There are a variety of factors that determine whether or not a celebrity accepts a small-screen role, which unfortunately means some people end up not being the biggest fans of their roles.

The shows mentioned on this list are some of our faves, and we almost had trouble believing the stars when they claimed they didn’t like them…ESPECIALLY because they’re basically the reason why we even know their names. But alas, it’s true — not everyone can be a cult TV junkie. Read on to see which of your fave stars actually bit the hand that fed them and dissed the television hit that made them famous.

Miley Cyrus, Hannah Montana

Miley Cyrus seemed like the perfect actress to star on Disney Channel's Hannah Montana, but while she certainly was good her job, she didn't necessarily love it — she even claims that it caused her to develop body dysmorphia!

Because she was constantly dressing up like Hannah on the show, she told reporters that she felt really lost if she wasn't wearing a long blonde wig and "some glittery tight thing." So when she wasn't on set, she didn't feel comfortable in her own skin. To this day, the actress blames the show for the mental illness.

Bella Thorne, Shake It Up!

Raise your hand if you want to star on a Disney Channel TV show! Yeah, us too. But Bella never did, and that's why we're confused... If she didn't want the lead role on Shake It Up!, why did she take it in the first place?

She might not have a good reason for hating Disney Channel, but she certainly had a good reason for taking the job even though she didn't want to sing or dance as a career — to help her family. "We were about to live physically on the street if I didn't have that role. We were living off Stouffer's coupons, and that's all we had to eat every day," she said.

Even though she didn't like the role, we're glad she was selfless enough to suck it up for Shake It Up! (hehe).

Blake Lively, Gossip Girl

Okay, you might be wondering how anyone could hate A) Gossip Girl and B) playing THE Serena Van Der Woodsen. Well, we guess Blake Lively can tell you.

The blonde loves acting, don't get us wrong. But what she didn't love about working on a TV show in a leading role is that it was entirely out of her control. Once she signed on, she had to be at the director's beck and call, until the series was scheduled to end.

After Gossip Girl, Blake took a break from acting to focus on her family, and in that time she launched a lifestyle website that focuses on living to your fullest and happiest potential. This helped her regain her sense of control, and now she's doing better than ever.

Penn Badgley, Gossip Girl

Blake isn't the only Gossip Girl star who wasn't thrilled about the job — Penn Badgley didn't like it either, but for a different reason!

The actor claimed that his other works have more "emotional resonance," implying that the show that MADE HIM FAMOUS was beneath him. We argue — he probably wouldn't even have the opportunity to pursue his other works if it weren't for his breakout role on Gossip Girl, so please SIT DOWN.

Chace Crawford, Gossip Girl

Unfortunately, Chace is yet another Gossip Girl star who wasn't in love with the job, even though he adored the cast and is still tight with most members today.

The actor said he lost his "dignity" during filming — probably because his character could be a little slimy at times. But hey, that's just a role. We still love you, Chace!

Mischa Barton, The O.C.

Mischa Barton might have had the coolest starring role on The O.C., but that doesn't mean it was her fave. Looking back on it, she doesn't think she would've taken the job if she was put in the situation again today.

Mostly, her reservations arise from the drama surrounded with being a child star. In an interview, she said, "I just like to be seen for the hard-working actress that I am and not for a bunch of extraneous press. In general, people are super quick to harbor on the gossipy stuff and less on how much work goes into it." We feel you, Mischa.
