There was a lot of confusion surrounding Dylan O’Brien‘s return to season 6B of Teen Wolf, especially after he was seriously injured on the Death Cure set. Thankfully, MTV confirmed that both Stiles Stilinski and Derek Hale (Tyler Hoechlin) will be included on the last 10 episodes of the MTV hit that’s set to premiere on July 30, but that wasn’t always the plan…well, at least for the 24-year-old actor.
The American Assassin star recently chatted with Entertainment Tonight and explained, “I wasn’t originally able to be a part of the last 10 [episodes] at all, nor was I contracted to be.”
While he very well could’ve just said ‘PEACE OUT’ to Beacon Hills, Dylan chose to reprise his character, however, because “[it was] really important to [him].”
“It was cool that we were able to find space of a couple weeks where I was home and I could go be a part of a few episodes, so I was glad to be able to do it because I’ve been with the show since the beginning, obviously,” he continued. “For me, it was my first role ever, so it would’ve been hard to eventually just not be a part of something that was still ongoing.”
Fans were obviously extremely vocal about wanting DOB to reprise his role before the show ended, but the decision to return was entirely his own — “[It was] fully voluntary. It was all heart.”
Although you’ll be able to catch Dylan on Teen Wolf in the upcoming months, you probably WON’T be seeing him on that rumored reboot.
“I haven’t heard anything about this, but I can guarantee you I probably won’t be in it,” he continued.
