You’ve heard the news already, but now’s your first chance to actually listen to the first single (slash watch the lyric video) off the Catching Fire soundtrack: Coldplay‘s “Atlas.”

For Coldplay’s first new music since its 2011 Mylo Xyloto album, which just so happens to be the band’s first original song for a motion picture as well, Chris Martin and the rest of the crew go deep with the lyrics: Some far away // Some search for gold // Some dragon to slay // Heaven we hope // Is just up the road // Show me the way, Lord // ’cause I — I’m about to explode.

When it was originally announced that the group would be leading the album for the sequel to The Hunger Games, Director Francis Lawrence said of the musical addition, “I have great respect and admiration for Coldplay, and we are thrilled with how well they have connected to the themes and ideas within the film. Their unwavering passion and excitement for the project elevated the collaboration even further, and we can’t wait to share this music with audiences around the world.”

So far, no details have been given as to the soundtrack’s release date, but “Atlas” is available on iTunes now! What do you think of the song? Does it feel like a good fit for the THG franchise? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below, or on our Catching Fire message board!

I adore Coldplay. Atlas is as good as their songs are usually. I just don’t know if it isn’t a bit too slow and calm for Catching Fire. :/
