Having Kate Winslet for a mom would seem pretty cool in and of itself, right? Well, apparently her two kids didn't realize exactly how awesome she is until she was cast in Divergent! The Oscar winning actress sat down with MTV's Josh Horowitz to discuss her latest movie Labor Day at the Toronto International Film Festival, but of course they chatted about Divergent as well.
As she was praising the script and "fantastic" book, she brought up the fact that this is the kind of book that her kids (daughter Mia is almost 13, son Joe is 10, and she's currently expecting her third) would be reading. In fact, she said that one day her daughter came home from school and said to her: "'Mom! You're never going to believe it. Rufus came up to me at school and said, 'Is your mom really in 'Divergent'? Is there going to be a premiere? Can you get me a ticket?'"
She also added: "'My daughter suddenly [had a] new-found respect. 'My mum is actually really cool.' I'm just going to go with that. I did it because I wanted my kids to think I was cool."
Looks like she's earned some street cred! We wonder if she gets bonus points since she's playing the villain? To see what else she had to say about the movie and her co-star Shailene Woodley, watch the interview above! And don't forget — Divergent hits theaters on March 21, 2014.
